Ditch of the Vistula Spit: Tourists use the vantage point

Interest in moat construction by the Vistula Spit among tourists is high. There is a private parking place and a point where you can monitor what is happening on the construction site from a safe distance – reported the Maritime Office in Gdynia.

Magdalena Kierzkowska, spokeswoman for Investor, i.e. the Maritime Office in Gdynia, has assessed interest in building a new waterway between Gdańsk Bay and Vistula Lagoon from the start.

– Last year, a private parking lot and a designated track were opened, leading to a point where you can monitor what is happening on the construction site from a safe distance – she explained.

She noted that on nice weather days, especially at weekends, the contractor monitors a large number of cars parked in a specially designated place from the side of Lake Vistula. Also on the beach, from the side of the Gulf of Gdask, you can see tourists interested in construction.

Last weekend, local media reported that amber hunters had taken over the beach in Kąty Rybackie. They illegally entered the construction site with appropriate equipment, as bulldozing and searching for amber inside was dumped. It was not without police intervention.

As confirmed by Magdalena Kirzkowska, there are no longer barn hunters on the construction site, because the contractor has taken appropriate measures in this regard; It strengthened facility security and required police to conduct additional patrols.

Yes, you can see people looking for amber in the area, on the beach, or in a shallow coastal area, which is of course permissible without the use of any pumping equipment, there is no drilling, neither in the dunes nor in the Forrest – added a spokeswoman for the Maritime Office.

The contractor is currently working ia in place of the new swing bridges over the navigation channel.

Traffic will be rerouted to the South Bridge in June this year. It follows that tourists heading to Krynica Morska will be able to walk along the new bridge, observing the construction work. During the summer holidays, it will still be possible to use the view that was identified last year.

The total length of the new waterway from the Gulf of Gdansk across Lake Vistula to Elblag is approximately 23 kilometers. The passage across the Vistula Lagoon will be just over 10 kilometers, on the Elblag River – also over 10 kilometers, and the rest of the 2.5 kilometers is a section consisting of a lock, an outdoor port and a car park. The entire depth of the channel and main corridor will be 5 meters.
