Perhaps the Google Pixel Fold has a special camera location

Since at least two years ago, rumours have suggested that Google is developing a foldable phone similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Fold. A long-time leaker has now divulged further information.

Digital Chat Station, a reliable source on Weibo, has leaked some facts about the alleged Pixel Fold. Back of Pixel foldable is similar to Pixel 7 and front to Oppo Find N, according to a post translated by Google Translate. In addition, the alleged leaker says that the gadget features a “very small-sized” primary display that folds horizontally inward (as opposed to a vertically folding design like clamshell foldables).

Additional assertions concerning the Pixel Fold were made by Digital Chat Station. They claim that the foldable screen features a full-screen design without a punch-hole cutout, while the outer screen has a center-mounted punch-hole display. Instead, a tiny selfie camera seems to be built inside the foldable.

While the Nokia N9 from 2011 and the early Xiaomi Mix phones both used frame-mounted selfie cameras, this wouldn’t be the first time such a design has been used. However, it would be an intriguing option to the original Fold’s thick cutout or a punch-hole cutout. I hope Google is able to keep the bezels narrow enough to fit a camera on top of the screen.

The idea that Google’s foldable phone may be more small isn’t new, though. Android 12L’s foldable phone picture from earlier this year may have hinted to a smaller form factor as well.

However, it seems that the Google Pixel foldable may not be a lost cause after all. In terms of when we’ll be able to view it, I don’t know yet. That will have to wait for another time.
