Apple has brought Parler messenger back into its app store, which was removed in mid-January due to unrest at the Capitol building. However, the tech giant is right about its previous decision to block the app, according to NBC.
The conservative social networking site Parler has also been banned by Google and Amazon. The companies accused the site of spreading incitement to violence after the Capitol attack in early January.
NBC has received a letter from Timothy Boderley, Apple’s senior director of government affairs, addressed to Republican politicians Senator Mick Lee and Representative Ken Buck, stating that Parler was restored on the App Store on April 14th.
Boderley wrote in a letter that the app was removed “for allowing the publication of publications encouraging violence, denigrating different ethnic groups, races and religions, glorifying Nazism, and inciting aggression against certain individuals.”
It was clear that moderation was not sufficient to protect users from harmful and unsafe content.
The Parler chief and his family are still in hiding. “We receive death threats”
He pointed out that the company “adheres to its decision,” which was “independent” and “not coordinated or consulted in any way with Google or Amazon.”
However, he reported that Apple is in “serious talks” with Parler, which has resulted in the restoration of the app in the App Store.
Parler on censorship! The tech giants were ruthless. They acted without warning
Parler was founded in 2018 by computer scientist John Matze, Jared Thomson, and Republican benefactor Rebecca Mercer. It claims to be an unbiased social media medium. However, he quickly gained popularity among supporters of former US President Donald Trump and right-wing conservatives. They have always accused Twitter and Facebook of censoring their posts.
